The Reincarnation of a Rock, the latest album by singer/songwriter John Michael Hersey is a song cycle about the journey of a soul that showcases a broad range of rock styles and lyrics by poet and artist Michael Vassaras. After the opening instrumental Samsara, the eternal cycle of life and death, the anthropomorphic journey begins with the lonely plight of A Rock who “used to be part of a wall.” The soul then transitions from blind but searching worm (I Have No Head), belligerent but regretful rat (I’m a Rat), comfortable but bored koala bear (Lil’ Eucalyptus Grove), guilt stricken Sacred Cow, fun-loving but shallow monkey (Swingin’) and angst-ridden man (Only a Man), finally arriving in Nirvana, where the soul plaintively asks “What has it all amounted to?” The album concludes with three bonus tracks that also feature the unconventionally profound Vassaras world-view.

Produced and performed by Hersey, this is his thirteenth album of original music. His work has drawn praise for thought-provoking lyrics and expert musicianship.
